Geoff,

First, make sure you're running the latest version of the BIOS, which
for the DL580 G2 is dated 10/07/2002.  Here's a link to that:

Also, as suggested earlier, you may want to run ROM-Based Setup (by
pressing F9 during POST) and set the OS Selection to Windows 2000 or
Linux.  The difference between the two are probably the APIC mode (which
for Windows will be Full Table, and Mapped for Linux).  In reality, you
should be able to use the "Windows" selection for any 'modern' operating
system that is APIC- and ACPI- aware.

(Regarding SmartStart -- all of our newer ProLiant servers have
ROM-Based Setup menus so you no longer need to boot off the SmartStart
CD to configure the BIOS settings.)
