Hello: I have been searching for an answer to this question, and I have not found it in the faqs and such. My problem involves running a mail server on a freebsd 4.1 system. It is on a dell 2 cpu poweredge server, using a SMP kernel, with a 100T full duplex nic. The problem is that it will occasionally stall when a client attempts to connect to qpop. I have made logs of the network action while the problem takes place. I simulated client activity by telneting to port 110. popper is the mail server, and ldap2 (10.1.8.12) was acting as the client. 09:58:32.946000 10.1.8.12.1042 > popper.clinedavis.com.pop3: S 381808462:381808462(0) win 32120 <mss 1460,sackOK,timestamp 82608691 0,nop,wscale 0> (DF) 09:58:32.946203 popper.clinedavis.com.pop3 > 10.1.8.12.1042: S 415203328:415203328(0) ack 381808463 win 17520 <mss 1460> (DF) 09:58:32.950368 10.1.8.12.1042 > popper.clinedavis.com.pop3: . ack 1 win 32120 (DF) 09:58:33.037605 10.1.8.12.1026 > popper.clinedavis.com.domain: 49012+ PTR? 4.1.1.10.in-addr.arpa. The server appears to be in good health, load averages are very good, (bellow 1 most of the time.) Nothing notable is in the message log. This issue is intermittent, and generally happens the first time a user attempts to connect. I do not know what the next step should be. Is there anyone out there who could shed some light on this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Jonathan Gileshelp
