I have set the execute bits of/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xinit/xinitrc . After that X works fine. The standard mode of this file is 444. The file will be execute by xinit in the procedure startClient. If you have a local .xinitrc you have to set the execute bit of the user too. The permissions for xserverrc-files should be set analogous. I'm running XFree86. Dirk
