Thank you Mr. Mutter for your help. After our changes to /etc/fstab and the
kernel, I recompiled the kernel and fastbooted, now I get this new type of
msg on bootup:

changing root device to wd0s1a
swap on: /dev/wd0s1b: No such file or directory
Automatic reboot in progress...
Can't stat /dev/wd0s1a: No such file or directory
Can't stat /dev/wd0s1a: No such file or directory
/dev/wd0s1a: CAN'T CHECK FILE SYSTEM
/dev/wd0s1a: UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY; RUN fsck manually.
Automatic file system check failed...help!
Enter full pathname of shell or RETURN for /bin/sh:

Anyone else had this problem or know of solution?
As always, I sincerely appreciate the ppl of this list for their time.

Looks good to me. I believe that it's the first line you need to be
concerned with.

Good luck.
