I have issued this command to test if the kernel supports my || port. diphth > dmesg grep lpt1 lpt1 at 0x378-0x37f I then attempted to set the communication mode for the port via 'lptcontrol' to set the interrupt-driven mode for lpt1. lptcontrol -i -u 1 it claims the device isn't configured When I attempted the printer test (plain old ASCII) lptest > /dev/lpt1 the printer makes a noise as if it's about to begin then stops suddenly. when I issue the command again the device comes up busy. I'm not asking for ready made solutions, I need some fundamental understanding of what is happening here.
