From the Hardware FAQ: (http://www.freebsd.org/FAQ/hardware.html#AEN1108) Q: Does FreeBSD support Symmetric Multiprocessing (SMP)? A: SMP is supported in 3.0-STABLE and later releases only. As for your KDE display, it sounds like you are running in 256-color (8bpp) resolution. Run XF86Setup and try to increase your colors to 16 or 24 bpp (64k or 16M colors).
