I never configured it in the first place. However, I am at a loss as to what to do to get rid of ar0. There are no references to it in /etc/fstab, all slices/partitions made using /stand/sysinstall where based on ad4 and ad6 (and ad0) - although sysinstall presented me with ar0, I left it alone. I even renamed /dev/ar0 to /dev/ar0.old, but it still booted up with the dmesg above. The old March 2002 kernel is happy with ar0 and the dmesg is the same, but lets me access ad4 and ad6 subdisks as entities in their own right. It seems as though something (kernel?) is 'assuming' that two identical drives on the same IDE controller must be forming a mirror -or- the card is saying 'although I'm not a RAID card, my default state is to mirror identical drives because my BIOS is almost the same as the FastTrak'! I don't want that. I want to use this particular card (Promise Ultra-66) for what it was intended for - extra IDE channels. There is no accessible BIOS on the card because it has no RAID function. I would be grateful if anyone has any suggestions as to how to get rid of ar0.
