Hmm... I got the information from your PR and tried it again.
Unfortunatelly I was unable to reproduce your problem on my
test box :-(

Matt has suggested that this might be caused by some bugs in
other subsystem, like some hardware that I don't have at hand.

So I'd appreciate if you would have test with INVARIANTS which
may help us to track down the issue.  Thanks for your patience!
