Hello!
From my point of view, forwarding e-mails to /dev/null
violates some basic assumptions on how an MTA should
work. The following has been taken from
/usr/share/doc/smm/09.sendmail/paper.ascii.gz:
2) Reliability, in the sense of guaranteeing that
every message is correctly delivered or at least
brought to the attention of a human for correct
disposal; no message should ever be completely
lost.
If you don't have a service, you don't need the
corresponding pseudo-user. If you have the service, RFC
2142 requires you to have the corresponding e-mail address,
and root should glance at the e-mails arrived. (RFC 2142
has already been cited on the list.)
With best regards
