After going through multiple PCIe SATA/eSata cards, and a motherboard BIOS
update (which really shouldn't have had any affect) - the large scale copy =
from
one external SATA drive to another finally succeded (again) without any ahc=
ich
errors. Inexplicable. Removing and reinserting original PCIe card intially
didn't help. Detaching and reataching original cables didn't help. One thing
different was using compressed air to try to clean the PCIe slot, but that =
is
hard to qualify.

At this point in time, this problem report can be closed.
