Are the CD-Rs from the same vendor/batch?
Could it possibly be that there is some problem with firmware recognizing those disks?

I think that it's not supposed to work for Audio-CDs with cd(4) [unlike acd(4) and
then with bs of 2352].
To digitally extract audio data you have to go via pass(4) and appropriate
SCSI/MMC commands.
