No problems, mostly for the qa@ archive:

I figured that the binary upgrading process needed testing in light
of a version change on XFree86.

I started with fresh 4.5-RELEASE install with a configured X3.3.6 for
my particular hardware and made sure things were functional.

Then, I removed /usr/src so I could choose the "All" Distribution
during
the binary upgrade. Sysinstall will complain if it detects a /usr/src
directory. I also elected to install a new ports collection during
the binary upgrade.

The binary upgrade to 4.6-RC2 was performed with the usual smoothness.
I added the wrapper package so that XFree86 could be ran as an
ordinary
user before leaving sysinstall and rebooting.

I moved the old /etc/XF86Config to /etc/XF86Config.336 and ran
xf86config
to generate an new /etc/XF86Config file.

XFree86 would then start using "startx" so xvidtune was ran to
generate
information for new modelines and those were added to the
/etc/XF86Config
file in their appropriate place.

Restarted X and all was well!

I suppose /etc/make.conf needs to specify:

	XFREE86_VERSION=       4

just to be safe. Bruce Mah mentioned that "the more recent ports
collection infrastructure will assume this (the default changed about
a month or so ago), so this shouldn't be needed. It can't hurt
though."

I'm sure the possibility exists that ports previously built under
X3.3.6
might have problems and need to be upgraded or rebuilt under X4.2.0.
I
didn't carry the testing that far.

I'm pleased this went so well!

Randy
