Hi, The original issue I had was between traceroute 1.3.2 and traceroute 1.4a12. I was testing routes on the Internet and noticed an issue when I was using traceroute 1.3.2. This issue caused me to get the latter version just to check. Then, I started to use other tools to check against the Unix tools. Traceroute 1.4a12 worked in all of my tests (its the Unix version) in comparision to Microsoft's tracert and sometimes better than tracert (traceroute was also faster). I tested the traceroute originally on FreeBSD v4.3 in detail. I also have a Solaris box at work where traceroute 1.4a5 and traceroute 1.4a12 was tested. For some reason, traceroute 1.4a12 performed better. I just found it a little strange and wondered if anyone has done any extensive testing with traceroute (on Unix only). You can use the Internet for your examples or an Intranet (nothing confidential, please). No, its not a FreeBSD issue since I have seen the same issue using Solaris as a test machine with the same compiled programs. Just raising a red flag and feel free to prove me wrong (when time permits).
