It's certainly true that if want stability, you don't want to be the first kid on the block with a new processor/OS combination. There's lot's of little issues in military procurement like components made in un-trusted nations etc. etc. So, pentium pro and NT isn't so bad. The kinds of controls and calculations I imagine run a navy vesel are probably very old school physics type stuff. Tragectory, inertia, cartography etc. In ironic way, no where near as taxing as 3d-rendering a scene from "Toy Story 2" on a computer. As long as they promise not to run IIS or code red will take on a whole new meaning.<wink>.
