What > am I doing wrong? > Since you say this is happening with "most" ports, there is a possibility that your very up-to-date ports tree is having problems with your rather out-of-date OS. A suggestion would be to update to 4.6 or better yet -STABLE and try again. However, don't take that advice without a good understanding of what you're doing....read the Handbook, read /usr/src/UPDATING, read 'man cvsup' etc., etc., .... I took the jump to -STABLE from 4.4-R a few months ago, and am pretty pleased with how everything works together....
