Are you using the acd0c device node? Did you remake the devices with the new systems /dev/MAKEDEV? Current -STABLE has acd0a and acd0c being the SAME minor number, which is different from 4.5-RELEASE (I believe). Current dev nodes on a 4.6-RC system: $ cd /dev $ ls -l acd* crw-r----- 4 root operator 117, 0 May 16 16:44 acd0a crw-r----- 4 root operator 117, 0 May 16 16:44 acd0c crw-r----- 4 root operator 117, 8 May 16 16:44 acd1a crw-r----- 4 root operator 117, 8 May 16 16:44 acd1c $ date Fri Jun 7 15:39:38 CDT 2002 $ grep FreeBSD MAKEDEV # $FreeBSD: src/etc/MAKEDEV,v 1.243.2.47 2002/04/21 19:47:06 will Exp $ # minor Linux FreeBSD $ On Fri, 2002-06-07 at 15:37, Brian Reichert wrote: > I didn't find any reference to this in the archives, so I apologize if it's > been recently discuss (and please chuck pointer at me so I can continute my > own reasearch). > > I have an ATAPI DVD ROM, that works just fine under 4.5-RELEASE. > > acd0: DVD-ROM <SAMSUNG DVD-ROM SD-608> at ata1-master WDMA2 > > Yesterday afternoon (~15:00 EST) I cvsupped to -stable. > > After the usual config/make/install/reboot, my drive would probe, > but any effort to use it would yeild 'device not configured'. :/ > A downgrade back to -RELEASE let me access the drive, so I know > it's not the hardware choosing to be weird. > > Any suggestions?
