Hard fact is that it worked for me ~ 1 month ago, when I built
HEAD kernel on stable/8 old way. I did not tried it since new binutils
were imported, since now this build method for HEAD requires HEAD as
base system. This was the reason for 'should' language.

It does work for me on stable/8 right now.
