Yup, I selected "Unixware 7" with Smartstart, took inspiration from
http://www.daemonnews.org/200003/cpqraid.html for kernel options ,
and now it booted with two CPUs (Tor Egge patch was not necessary).

The only anomaly I can see in /var/log/messages is
  /kernel: APIC_IO: Testing 8254 interrupt delivery
  /kernel: APIC_IO: Broken MP table detected: 8254 is not connected to IO APIC int pin 2
  /kernel: APIC_IO: routing 8254 via 8259 on pin 0
which I hope to be innocuous.
