1.  Well, from what i have heard, linux needed a LOT of vendor support
before it got to that point.  FreeBSD has a ways to go in this area.  
Also, they have an icon, a leader, that the media can point to.  This
difference has been observed by others, since FreeBSD is a group rather
than one person who makes all the decisions.

2.  Also, there are still several linux distros that will probably stay
away from IPOs because they want to preserve the volunteer atmosphere.

3.  Can you imagine Jordan having to report to a CEO or a Board
of
Directors?  ;-)
