For instance, German text can also losslessly(*) be represented in ISO8859-2, ISO8859-15, several other ISO8859-* encodings and of course UTF-8. The man utility should be able to automatically convert between UTF-8 and the installed ISO8859* representation, so that ports do not have to install the manual pages for every common encoding.
