Try a "df -i" and you'll see you are out of inodes. Out of inodes but still with free space means you have too many small files on this filesystem. That is very surprising as usually newfs massively over-supplies inodes. Did you mess with newfs parameters when you did the install? The only solutions are move/delete some files or backup, newfs (with different parameters) and restore the partition. Greg.
