This is a 10 day slip from August 20th due to the fact that I'll be
gone for 2 weeks right in the middle of the release schedule.
Correspondingly, I'm going to set the "final freeze" date for August
15th, 2001. The -stable tree will go into code slush on August 1st,
during which time fixes MUST be reviewed and approved by the release
engineer before they'll be allowed into -stable.

Which brings up the question of my vacation again. I'll be gone from
August 4th through August 18th, during which time Murray Stokely
<murray@freebsd.org> will be the "deputy release engineer." Why
Murray? Several reasons. One, because he's a known quantity to me
given that I've worked with him for several years. For another, he
has the time to devote to this as a full-time FreeBSD person and he
also possesses that rare combination of "willingness to do
managerial-type things" and "tact", both of which are rarely found in
one person. :) I think Murray will do a fine job and I thank you in
advance for giving him your support for those 2 weeks. When the time
comes, my vacation program will tell you where to send your requests
for approval. 4.4 is another "magic number" for the BSD world so
let's make FreeBSD 4.4-RELEASE one of the best ever!

Thanks,

- Jordan
