Trying to install FreeBSD 4.3/4.4 from CD, when the intall process goes to
touch the hard drive, it claims it can not write to the drive, and the
install fails.

I can install the OS on a different box, put that drive in the compaq, and
it will boot. Once. The second boot will either give me a trashed boot
loader or a crash w/register dump.

Any ideas how to get past these problems beyond replacing the box or going
to SCSI?
