For one, no released version of GCC understands anything above "-O3" (anything above 3 gets converted to 3). RTFM. Have you done a single measure to see what the extra optimization is buying you? OR do you just want to be macho and so you can tell everyone your world is built with "-O6"? (As I stand up straight and stick out my chest like a military man) FreeBSD only officially supports building the OS with "-O".
