Hm - I've been using a kernel without INET6 turned on since I don't need any IP6 stuff here. ping6 simply returns this: $ ping6 localhost ping6: Non-recoverable failure in name resolution $ I'll build a new kernel with INET6 turned back on and see if that makes a difference. In the meantime, I've appended "truss telnet localhost" output below. -- Parag Patel __sysctl(0xbfbff530,0x2,0x280703e8,0xbfbff52c,0x0,0x0) = 0 (0x0) mmap(0x0,32768,0x3,0x1002,-1,0x0) = 671551488 (0x28071000) geteuid() = 1000 (0x3e8) getuid() = 1000 (0x3e8) getegid() = 1000 (0x3e8) getgid() = 1000 (0x3e8) open("/var/run/ld-elf.so.hints",0,00) = 3 (0x3) read(0x3,0xbfbff510,0x80) = 128 (0x80) lseek(3,0x80,0) = 128 (0x80) read(0x3,0x28073100,0x8d) = 141 (0x8d) close(3) = 0 (0x0) access("/usr/lib/libncurses.so.5",0) = 0 (0x0) open("/usr/lib/libncurses.so.5",0,027757772610) = 3 (0x3) fstat(3,0xbfbff558) = 0 (0x0) read(0x3,0xbfbfe528,0x1000) = 4096 (0x1000) mmap(0x0,266240,0x5,0x2,3,0x0) = 671584256 (0x28079000) mmap(0x280ad000,36864,0x3,0x12,3,0x33000) = 671797248 (0x280ad000) mmap(0x280b6000,16384,0x3,0x1012,-1,0x0) = 671834112 (0x280b6000) close(3) = 0 (0x0) access("/usr/lib/libcrypto.so.1",0) = 0 (0x0) open("/usr/lib/libcrypto.so.1",0,027757772610) = 3 (0x3) fstat(3,0xbfbff558) = 0 (0x0) read(0x3,0xbfbfe528,0x1000) = 4096 (0x1000) mmap(0x0,647168,0x5,0x2,3,0x0) = 671850496 (0x280ba000) mmap(0x2814a000,53248,0x3,0x12,3,0x8f000) = 672440320 (0x2814a000) mmap(0x28157000,4096,0x3,0x1012,-1,0x0) = 672493568 (0x28157000) close(3) = 0 (0x0) access("/usr/lib/libcrypt.so.2",0) = 0 (0x0) open("/usr/lib/libcrypt.so.2",0,027757772610) = 3 (0x3) fstat(3,0xbfbff558) = 0 (0x0) read(0x3,0xbfbfe528,0x1000) = 4096 (0x1000) mmap(0x0,12288,0x5,0x2,3,0x0) = 672497664 (0x28158000) mmap(0x28159000,8192,0x3,0x12,3,0x0) = 672501760 (0x28159000) close(3) = 0 (0x0) access("/usr/lib/libmp.so.3",0) = 0 (0x0) open("/usr/lib/libmp.so.3",0,027757772610) = 3 (0x3) fstat(3,0xbfbff558) = 0 (0x0) read(0x3,0xbfbfe528,0x1000) = 4096 (0x1000) mmap(0x0,40960,0x5,0x2,3,0x0) = 672509952 (0x2815b000) mmap(0x28164000,4096,0x3,0x12,3,0x8000) = 672546816 (0x28164000) close(3) = 0 (0x0) access("/usr/lib/libipsec.so.1",0) = 0 (0x0) open("/usr/lib/libipsec.so.1",0,027757772610) = 3 (0x3) fstat(3,0xbfbff558) = 0 (0x0) read(0x3,0xbfbfe528,0x1000) = 4096 (0x1000) mmap(0x0,24576,0x5,0x2,3,0x0) = 672550912 (0x28165000) mmap(0x2816a000,4096,0x3,0x12,3,0x4000) = 672571392 (0x2816a000) close(3) = 0 (0x0) access("/usr/lib/libc.so.4",0) = 0 (0x0) open("/usr/lib/libc.so.4",0,027757772610) = 3 (0x3) fstat(3,0xbfbff558) = 0 (0x0) read(0x3,0xbfbfe528,0x1000) = 4096 (0x1000) mmap(0x0,598016,0x5,0x2,3,0x0) = 672575488 (0x2816b000) mmap(0x281e7000,16384,0x3,0x12,3,0x7b000) = 673083392 (0x281e7000) mmap(0x281eb000,73728,0x3,0x1012,-1,0x0) = 673099776 (0x281eb000) close(3) = 0 (0x0) sigaction(SIGILL,0xbfbff5b0,0xbfbff598) = 0 (0x0) sigprocmask(0x1,0x0,0x2807031c) = 0 (0x0) sigaction(SIGILL,0xbfbff598,0x0) = 0 (0x0) readlink("/etc/malloc.conf",0xbfbff3d4,63) ERR#2 'No such file or directory' mmap(0x0,4096,0x3,0x1002,-1,0x0) = 673173504 (0x281fd000) break(0x8065000) = 0 (0x0) break(0x8066000) = 0 (0x0) break(0x8067000) = 0 (0x0) break(0x8068000) = 0 (0x0) break(0x8069000) = 0 (0x0) __sysctl(0xbfbff45c,0x2,0xbfbff4b0,0xbfbff458,0x0,0x0) = 0 (0x0) ioctl(0,TIOCGETA,0x805f360) = 0 (0x0) sigprocmask(0x1,0x0,0x805f3dc) = 0 (0x0) open("/etc/services",0,0666) = 3 (0x3) fstat(3,0xbfbff2f4) = 0 (0x0) break(0x806b000) = 0 (0x0) read(0x3,0x8069000,0x2000) = 8192 (0x2000) close(3) = 0 (0x0) open("/etc/services",0,0666) = 3 (0x3) fstat(3,0xbfbff2b4) = 0 (0x0) read(0x3,0x8069000,0x2000) = 8192 (0x2000) close(3) = 0 (0x0) open("/etc/services",0,0666) = 3 (0x3) fstat(3,0xbfbff254) = 0 (0x0) read(0x3,0x8069000,0x2000) = 8192 (0x2000) close(3) = 0 (0x0) open("/etc/services",0,0666) = 3 (0x3) fstat(3,0xbfbff2b4) = 0 (0x0) read(0x3,0x8069000,0x2000) = 8192 (0x2000) close(3) = 0 (0x0) open("/etc/services",0,0666) = 3 (0x3) fstat(3,0xbfbff254) = 0 (0x0) read(0x3,0x8069000,0x2000) = 8192 (0x2000) close(3) = 0 (0x0) localhost: No address associated with hostname write(2,0xbfbfee3c,47) = 47 (0x2f) getuid() = 1000 (0x3e8) setuid(0x3e8) = 0 (0x0) exit(0x1) process exit, rval = 256 To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-stable" in the body of the message
