I just dropped back to linux_base 6.1 since linux_base 7.1 fails
violently with acrobat reader. linux-opera runs just fine with both,

I installed Acrobat Reader 5, then later ran
portupgrade to update linux_base to 7.1. Acrobat
Reader 5 continues to work fine.

Running -STABLE (cvsup as of a couple of days ago).
