Nothing to feel sheepish about - you're willing to *contribute* and that already puts you up in the top 1% of FreeBSD users, regardless, and certainly wins you an entry in my good book. :) Don't worry too much about inadvertantly attempting to reinvent the wheel sometimes - there are a LOT of "wheels" in FreeBSD and even most of us don't know them all.
