Volker Stolz reported the same kind of problem back on April 28.
This could be related to the problems that have been occuring with 
the ATA driver, which the maintainer is currently is working on 
fixing.

For details you may want to go to www.freebsd.org, select 'mailing 
lists' on the lefthand side, select 'search' at the top, select the 
"Stable" mailing list (un-select the "Questions" list) and then put 
the string "READ_LONG" into the search box.

There were also some general ATA threads here over the last few weeks 
but I don't have the thread titles handy at the moment.
