Not that explicitly, but it used to be possible to choose a different 
version in the options page.
I once used it, altough that's definitely an unusual way of installing.
Maybe this option it's gone in later versions, I didn't check.

In any case, available versions were only RELEASEs, as explained 
elsewhere in this thread.
