Hi Karl, I had the *exact* same problem with one of my FBSD boxes on my home lan. Printing to parallel printers in a former life as Win 98SE & W2K "just worked" without hassles. However under FBSD.., nothing (search the questions & hardware lists for my earlier posts). No output from all of the tests listed in the handbook 2nd Ed, and nothing returned from dmesg concerning the parallel printing devices configured in the kernel. I fielded the same sets of responses from list members about the P'n'P bios settings ; irq settings & and possible hardware (actual parallel port) failure. Well., I had to rebuild this very machine two weeks ago, and I took the opportunity to see if it would still print under Win98SE, and it did - just like back in the pre-FBSD days. So.., although I've not got a fix for you. At least you should know that there *are* others that have this problem too. I now print via a W2K box running a print server.
