Gary Kline <kline@tera.com>: |Dann Lunsford: | |> Hi! I need some advice (or at least some information :-)) about buying |> a laptop. What brands/models support FreeBSD best, etc.? ... | There's a web page at http://home.jp.FreeBSD.org/~toshi/PAO/LTS.txt, | and another at http://www.cse.ucsc.edu/~dkulp/fbsd/laptop.html. Apart | from that, it's " suck it and see", I'm afraid. Does anyone have experience with wireless ethernet on a FreeBSD laptop? I've been thinking "FreeBSD laptop" for a while too. Though computing away from home would be nice, I'd really like to be able to cart it around the house -- living room, deck, kitchen, etc. -- without dragging a coax or twisted pair cable around. How well does wireless ethernet work? Would it be reasonable to expect to use it between floors in a house? Do all wireless LANs use use the same frequency range? What receivers are needed, how much do they cost, and how well do they work for you? It'd sure be slick to have something like this up-and-running. Though products like the WebPad (http://www.cyrix.com/html/emerging/webpad/wp_bkgrd.htm) and the Qubit (http://www.qubit.net/) may be eventually come to market, they probably won't be any more open than E-books are. BTW, lots of good info on those links Gary. Thanks.
