To get bmeyer's solution to work on 15+ (including 16-CURRENT), I had to add
"kern.geom.label.ufsid.enable=0" to /boot/loader.conf.d/

There used to be a time, when hard-coding the providers in the GEOM Journal
would avoid all this, tho, that has not worked for sometime either.
