Yippee! Here is an interesting message from the crossgcc list today.

We'll be providing an RTEMS compatible FreeBSD crossm68k port upgrade ASAP.
Other targets as we get hardware and time...

Many thanks to Eric, Joel and the other RTEMS contributors!

Cheers,

Yes. Nov 1.

It has been a LONG year. Earlier this year, RTEMS was including a port of
the KA9Q TCP/IP stack. There were questions regarding its performance
and licensing. Along the way Eric Norum ported the FreeBSD stack to
RTEMS. Based on concerns that releasing an RTEMS with the KA9Q stack
would cause transition problems, we held the release.

There are a number of other significant additions since 3.6.0 including:

+ addition of the FreeBSD TCP/IP stack
                    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
  + configuration via GNU autoconf
+ POSIX threads and real-time extensions
+ C++ Binding for Classic API
  + new Board Support Packages:
    - self booting pc386 BSP
    - psim (for free PowerPC 60x simulator)
    - helas403 (PowerPC 403)
    - ods68302
    - bare BSP
+ port to the Hitachi SH
+ better integration with the GNU tools
+ support for more hosts including CygWin32 and FreeBSD.
                                                  ^^^^^^^
+ GNAT/RTEMS (native Ada tasking with RTEMS)
  + More manuals
     - Getting Started with RTEMS
     - Getting Started with GNAT/RTEMS
     - RTEMS Network Supplement

4.0 is the first release which has not been done as part of the Army
funded R&D effort. This release has primarily been volunteer effort --
including most of the time I have invested in it. This transition has
been and continues to be painful.

In spite of what some think, OAR is not getting rich from RTEMS. All
RTEMS income invested back in RTEMS. The release schedule simply reflects
that:

+ a number of significant submissions have been made,
+ most of the submissions were from volunteers, and
+ perfectionism seems to be a trait of RTEMS users and submitters.

> What are the current issues stalling the networking release of RTEMS.

None at this time.
