The ath(4) manpage says:
NAME
ath -- Atheros IEEE 802.11 wireless network driver
SYNOPSIS
To compile this driver into the kernel, place the following lines in your
kernel configuration file:
device ath
device ath_hal
device ath_rate_sample
device wlan
Alternatively, to load the driver as a module at boot time, place the
following line in loader.conf(5):
if_ath_load="YES"
[...]
You will also need the various wlan_xxx options you list above if you wish
to use WPA and/or WEP. (Using WPA is strongly recommended.)
