I recommend the following: The Complete FreeBSD -- Available from Walnut Creek CDROM. Next to the Handbook this is the definitive reference. The FreeBSD Handbook -- http://www.freeebsd.org under Documentation; an older revision is in /usr/share/doc/handbook. This _is_ the definitive reference for FreeBSD. UNIX System Administration Handbook, Second Edition Evi Nemeth et al. Prentice Hall ISBN 0-13-151051-7 Lots of good bits on general sysadmining. BSD/OS is close enough to FreeBSD. TCP/IP Network Administration Craig Hunt O'Reilly & Associates ISBN 0-937175-82-X Everything you wanted to know about operating TCP/IP networks. An absolute must for anyone who does anything more with networks than use them. There is an excellent bibliography in the Handbook. Other resources: http://www.freebsd.org -- everything connected to FreeBSD and then some. -> Search -- look at the mailing list archives. First stop for questions. -> Documentation -- tutorials, Handbook, FAQ, etc. Mailing Lists: -> questions@freebsd.org -- general questions. A good first stop for questions. -> doc@freebsd.org (this one) -- documentation issues & submissions. Hope this helps. Have fun and keep your Weed Eater handy :-) Doug White | University of Oregon Internet: dwhite@resnet.uoregon.edu | Residence Networking Assistant http://gladstone.uoregon.edu/~dwhite | Computer Science Majorhome | help
