Have a look a the common BSD vs. Linux papers placed all over the web.
BSD's TCP/IP stack has been better than Linux's in terms of performance
and stability in the past, I can't say if this is still the case.

Not to my knowledge, but you might have a look at NetBSD IIRC it has
been ported to a MMU-less system already, but I'm not sure.
