Your XF86Config file is /home/marc/XF86Config.new To test the server, run 'XFree86 -xf86config /home/marc/XF86Config.new' And of course when I use 'su' instead of 'su -m' I've got: Your XF86Config file is /root/XF86Config.new To test the server, run 'XFree86 -xf86config /root/XF86Config.new' So in fact the file will be placed in $HOME and not "always" in /root.
