And SGI started. IRIX 6.2 includes a component called sgitcl_eoe.
I'm not sure how heavily it's used in the OS. IRIX includes perl
in a seperate component as well. The good thing about this is that
you can choose not to install these components if you don't want
them. SGI has an advantage in this area though because they don't
have to distribute a similarly compartmentalized source tree (Elvis
only knows how they handle this internally).

In any case, I don't think tcl belongs in the FreeBSD's /usr/src and
I wish everyone would stop arguing over it and nuke it already. If
people want tools that use tcl or its ilk, put them both in a
seperate repository (other than ports -- maybe a layered products
repository). The core OS tree should not be dependent on these tools
but the user can choose to install them along with the other large
pieces just like XFree86.
