I have the final assault at the userland/kernel mixing of major/minor numbers in the melting pot right now (that's where the trouble with devname() comes from. I hope to have it resolved very shortly and then we should be able to write the "device driver NG" doc and examples without fear that I'll rip everything apart in the next couple of weeks.
