Depending on your Mainboard, you will need a Terminator for the (empty) slot 2, if there is only one CPU installed. The GENERIC kernel will come up just fine, and later, when you have an additional CPU installed, under 4.x just recompile the kernel with SM P switched on, under 5.x ist shall autodetect the second CPU.
