For those who haven't noticed, the 4.5-RELEASE feature freeze is rapidly approaching. With its approach comes the normal rapid merging of features from -CURRENT to get in before the freeze. As such, the commit rate to -STABLE is currently higher than normal, and so the risk of getting a poor snapshot is higher. While we'd like as many people as possible to test the new code, some may choose to wait until after the 20th, when the freeze actually occurs, to make sure they get a clean kernel that compiles properly. We'd like 4.5-RELEASE to be one of our best performing, not to mention most stable, releases. The only way to make that happen is to get lots of people to test the new code. Murray will shortly be posting some QA testing areas to the qa@FreeBSD.org list, but as advance warning, you can expect them to include requests to extensively test performance and interoperability of the TCP implementation, and to attempt to stress the file system and VM code, especially in light of recent enabling of the UFS_DIRHASH code by default.
