In a recent email conversation with the the GD port maintainer (Bill
Fumerola) it sounds like he's been a bit busy. In the meantime, try
replacing the Makefile and patches files with the ones in this attached
zip file. I have verified that it works for me (I don't use the
WANT_X11 define, though so beware) on 3.4, cvsupped yesterday.
