My /boot/loader.conf now contains:

cuse_load="YES"
hw.usb.quirk.0="0x1b1c 0x1b40 0 0xffff UQ_KBD_BOOTPROTO"

I also loaded the usb_quirk module before rebooting.

Now it works, except for the blinking scroll-lock LED as mentioned in 224592.
