The quick answer is, similar to the answer "what do I do; it hurts when I
put my finger in my ear": don't do that.  krn, as-is, will indeed eat gobs
of RAM on big newsgroups (2000+ messages IIRC).  Add more swap space,
debug krn, or just don't grab that many subject headers.
