Hello all...
I'm a new addition to this list and also a first time sysadmin for
my high school's TCP/IP network. I have very little experience being a
sysadmin (seeing as I am only 15 -- although I have much experience in other
areas of the internet and around 2 years experience in UNIX) type OS's). I
was wondering if anyone could recommend any good books for sysadminning
FreeBSD -- I know they are a few on the freebsd.org page, but I'd like some
reccommendations. Also - Should FreeBSD be able to run BSDI 4.x binaries? Do
I have to do anything else? Thanks for your help and I hope to be able to
contribute questions and answers often.

In the Unix System Administration Handbook, Evi Nemeth has this to say about
daemons:
"Many people equate the word ``daemon'' with the word ``demon,''
implying some kind of Satanic
connection between UNIX and the underworld. This is an egregious
misunderstanding. ``Daemon'' is
actually a much older form of ``demon''; daemons have no particular bias
towards good or evil, but
rather serve to help define a person's character or personality. The ancient
Greeks' concept of a
``personal daemon'' was similar to the modern concept of a ``guardian
angel'' --- ``eudaemonia''
is the state of being helped or protected by a kindly spirit. As a rule,
UNIX systems seem to be
infested with both daemons and demons." (p403)
