In my opinion the book of questions, and pages such as <https://www.freebsd.org/about/>, should make it easier for a newcomer to tell – at a glance – that FreeBSD does not include a GUI. David, if you want a disk image with a desktop environment, you might be interested in topics such as this: FreeBSD-13.0-RELEASE-amd64-KDE-Plasma (2021-06-23) <https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/81030/> – tl;dr work in progress, it's not yet understood why the image is not _immediately_ compatible with the most recent guest additions for VirtualBox.
