Thank you very much... that fixed it. This explains something else... when I first tested the machine it had only 2 processors and a 4.3gig and I am sure, in retrospect, that it had recognized both processors. When I put in all the rest of the hardware and re-installed, I ran the smart start and chose "Other" for the OS. - brian On Sat, 8 May 2004, Matt Dawson wrote: > -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- > Hash: SHA1 > > root@maxbaud.net wrote: > > =A0 > > Guess that means that it doesn't have ACPI :). =A0With SMP and apic ena= bled, > > I get the message: > > > > cpu0 on motherboard > > > > And, when I run mptable, it dumps out a MP v1.4 table (I can send detai= ls > > if anyone has any ideas). =A0I have trudged through a ton of messages o= n the > > mailing list site, and have found some messages from people using simil= ar > > hardware (dual PPro 5500 boxen), none mention the failure to initialize > > the other processors. =A0Anyone have any suggestions? =A0Or at least ha= ve it > > working? =A0It finds all the processors in the BIOS, mptable and Windoz= e2k. > > Quirk of old Proliants ;o) Here's the skinny: > > When installing BSD on one of these, you MUST select either Unixware 2.x = or > Unixware 7 as the primary OS for the MPTable format to be recognized by t= he > OS.
