I have FreeBSD and, until a recent re-installation, I was running bash. The scrollback commandline buffer worked just fine. Make sure you set your user to actually use the bash shell. Which, if you don't know what you're doing (like me), could be difficult. I would aide further by telling you how, but at the moment.... I am reinstalling again.
