There's still a lot of mucking around with the i386 bits to be done 
before I'm happy with them.  I'm almost tempted to commit the alpha and 
MI bits of the bootstrap and leave the i386 bits out for a while.

If there's general interest in playing with it in its current state, 
then I'll commit earlier rather than later.  There *is* lots that I/we
would like others to look at.
