[-- Attachment #1 --] I don't know that beast at all .... probably none of them roamed as far from home as Australia :) However I have attempted to install various renditions of FreeBSD on some of the more exotic hardware & invariably discovered (presumably) new / hitherto undiscovered "features". If by"portable" you mean some flavor of laptop then I'm not at all surprised you are getting weird results .... seems most laptop manufacturers search out the most unusual bits that are guaranteed to give problems with any O/S bar Win9x !!! Probably the best place to start here (assuming you have the patience of Job) is to provide the list with a complete summary of what is in the machine .... VGA adaptor / audio adaptor / IDE controller / motherboard chipset / RAM / CPU manufacturer / NIC (if installed) / modem as someone may have had experience with some or all those bits. My suggestion for what its worth is to exchange the thing for a regular "common or garden variety" box ... preferably one of the generic "built in someone's backyard" style rather than a Compaq / Digital / IBM / Fujitsu type one as those are often inclined to be Win9x devotees. ----- Original Message ----- From: Michel Van Simaeys To: freebsd-newbies@FreeBSD.ORG Sent: Sunday, December 17, 2000 6:18 AM Subject: Trying to install FreeBsd for the very first time. Dear, Finally I have a portable to instaal FreeBsd 3.3 on. After making the installation disks, I try to boot from diskette. This is what appears. After about one minute the system stops with the following statements. /boot.config: -P Keyboard: no - BTX loader 1.00 BTX version is 1.01 I have to reset the machine to be able to continue. I saw in the documentation an advise on using the 'userconfig' tool; Where on the net can I find this tool? What is going on?? I have a Echos P133 Portable from Olivetti with DOS 6.3 installed.
